THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. FURTHER ADVANCE IN WAIHIS. Tho week opened quietly on tho Auckland Stock Exchange'yesterday, when the Government securities section was tho only ono to show much activity. Holders were inclined to ouoto more freely in that department. War Loans, 1939, per cent., changed hands at the current rate of £99, with more on late offer at that figure, while Inscribed Slocks, 1938, 4£ per cent., had salo at £9B 17s 6d, a drop of half a crown on the price paid at.tho preceding transaction in August. Neither tho banking nor tho insurance section produced business. In banks there was littlo change in quotations, but Now Zcalands could be had at 61s 3d, threoponce easier than on Saturday. In insurance holders of New Zealand reduced their figure by threepence to 45s at tho late call, buyers 44s 9d. Business was dono at 45.4 3d last week. South British, which had their last sale at 62s lOd three weeks ago, could bo had .at 635, buyers 625. Only sporadic business was dono in the other sections. In miscellaneous Farmers' Tradings wcro done at 7s 6d, the ruling rate, while Sanforda changed hands at 18s 6d, a decline of sixpence on the price paid in August, when tho preceding salo was recorded. In mining Waihis registered another adVance to sell at 14s 2d, the peak price, since tho beginning of the year. Sales were made last week at up, to 14s. The following sales took place:—War Loan, 1939, 4£ per cent., £99; Inscribed Stock, 1938, per cent., £9B 17s 6d; Farmers' Trading Company, 7s 6d; Sanford, Ltd., 18s 6d; Waihi, 14s 2d.
