COUNCILLORS' EXPENSES. CONTROL OF ROAD TRAFFIC. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN COKHESrOKDENT.] TE .AWAMUTU, Monday. At a meeting of the Waipa County Council to-day members objected to the fact that legislation had not been introduced to recompense members for attendance at meetings. It was stated the former practice was to pay 5s per meeting, plus lOd per mile travelled. Recently, as a temporary measure, the basis was altered to 10d per hour plus 8d per mile. This, councillors contended, was not commensurate with the value of their services. They compare their position with that of Power Board members who received ono guinea a meeting. It was stated furthermore that the chairman of a power board may be paid £3OO a year, whereas (lie limit" for a county chairman was £l5O. / It was decided to telegraph the Government asking for amending legislation. Members objected that automobile associations should bo permitted to intervene in representations made from county councils to the Minister of Public Works respecting speed by-laws for roads to which associations do not contribute directly for maintenance.
