BRITISH SEAMEN.
RIVAL UNION PLANNED. OPPOSITION AROUSED. (Received October 7, 11.55 p.m.) United Service. LONDON, Oct. 6. Rumours have been current since the expulsion of the National Union of Seamen from the Trades TJrrion Congress that the Transport and General Workers' Union will shortly open a campaign for the organisation of a Marino Workers' Trades Union. The leaders are troubled because now there is no organisation representing the seamen affiliated to tho general council of the Trades Union Congress. The organisation committee is earnestly considering the whole seamen's question. Mr. Cathcry, acting-general secretary, says tho National Union of Seamen has been established 40 years and is recognised by important people in the shipping industry. Any other union that may try to organise tho seamen will have something very big to tackle. Certainly the union would not. take it lying down. They would fight anybody and everybody.
