V SIR JOHN SALMOND'S REPORT USELESS FOR WAR PURPOSES. (Received October 7. 5.18 p.m.) SYDNEY. Oct. 7. Tho report prepared by Air-Marshal Sir John Salmond, Commander-in-Chief of the Air Defence of Britain, on the Australian Air Forco says the force is useless for war, owing to the obsolete machines, tho absence of reserve equipment, and the low standard of training among the operational units. Tho replacement of equipment is overdue. Recommendations are submitted for the development of tho Air Forco, tho cost of which will be £1,139,000 a year, compared with £531.000 at present.
