KAURI GUM BOARD.

WIDER USE OF PRODUCT. FINANCIAL POSITION SOUND. The Kauri Gum Control Bo;ird met last week, the chairman, Mr. M. H. Wyriyard, presiding. Statements that there ha'd been a loss on the board's operations during the past financial year were replied to. It was stated the hoard's finances werb in a healthy condition and the accounts for the year, which had hcen forwarded to Wellington, clearly indicated that the allegations of loss were without foundation. It was also claimed that the operations of the board in the brokerage business as agent for the diggers had been steadily increasing from month to month. Preliminary arrangements were made for the erection of an experimental plant to clean chips and the lower grades of kauri gum to tost out the practicability of supplying these grades with a high gum content suitable for use in the varnish and lacquer industries, as well as meeting the requirements of the linoleum industry. Several applications for the lifting of the reservation over portions of kauri gum reserves were referred to the board by the Lands Department. After inspection and report it was decided, to object to the granting of two of the applications on the ground that the land was still gum bearing. Jn three cases it was decided to recommend that the applications he granted and the reservation uplifted. Further reports were made as to t'lo desire of the producers in the Waiharnra district in regard to the opening for general digging of the area of 3000 acres at Kaimaumau, formerly leased by Peat Oils, Limited. It was decided to send copies of the reports 1:0 the Lands Department.
