' The event was conducted by the Manukau Amateur Cycling Club and ideal weather conditions prevailed. Thirty-five started, as against 32 last year, and the finest race over this distance yet staged in Auckland remilted. Many competitors fell on tho metal road' between I'apnkura and Clevedon. Tho concrete road to l'apakura , and back was free from accidents and 110 difficulty was presented by the motor traffic. The four limit men, A. Rose, W. Clarke, G. Whitehouso and 0. Francis, woro despatched from Sir John Logan Campbell's.statue, Epsom, at two o'clock, and at their respective intervals the remaining 31' competitors left, the scratch men, J. 11. Wade and J. Whittcn, leaving, at 2.15. Passing tho Manurewa post office tho limit men were riding well and liad been joined by S. R. Oat land, off ]4m. Rose, W. Clarke, G. Whitehouso, 15m; and S. It. Gotland, 14m. C. Francis, 15nv retired here, having punctured. About a minute later L. Aldred. 11m, and C. Harris, 10m, passed, followed closely by C. W. Borland managed to hold his learl until reaching Papatoetoe, where his brother overhauled him and assumed the lead until Westfield, where he was rapidly caught by J. Whitten, scr, who had gone away from the back division at Manurewa. Wade, in company with the other back-markers, made a determined effort just before Wiri to overhaul Whilten. who had then a lead of 200 yds., but L. Pinfold and W. Dwight, both off 6rn, along with Wade, fell. The two firstnamed remounted and continued, but Wado withdrew. Along Market. Iload Whittcn was closely attended' by C. A.
