THE TOURIST SEASON.

RECORD NUMBERS EXPECTED. VISITORS FROM GERMANY. The approaching tourist season in New , Zealand should create new records. The largest number of visitors is expected from Australia. Commencing with the Niagara, which will arrive from Vancouver to-dav. every passenger steamer arriving in New Zealand from overseas ports during the next few months will have included in the passenger lists a large proportion of tourists—anglers and sightseers. They will come from the United Kingdom, the Continent, America and the East! In a few months representatives of all nations will be in quest of swordfish and shark in the fishing grounds of the Bay of Islands and elsewhere. A possible new feature of the tourist traffic during the coming season will be visitors from Germany. Since the war years very few Germans have gone abroad. Now Germany is advertising extensively her own tourist resorts and her people are setting out- to see the world. This movement will no doubt bo reflected in New Zealand. Larger numbers of visitors than usual are expected from India, the Malay Kates, Ceylon, China and elsewhere in the East. From inquiries to hand it seems likely, as in past years, that the invasion from the United States will be the predominating one. It has been estimated 20 American tourists arrive for every British one, and this proportion is likely to be continued. Wealthy Englishmen seek pleasure resorts on the Continent during the winter, but a long sea journey is attractive to the American tourist. Many prominent anglers intend to carry out the programme they have followed for years past, arriving in the Dominion toward the end of October for one or two months' trout fishing and then going to the deep-sea fishing grounds. Prominent deep-sea fishermen who are returning this year are Mr. Alma Baker and Mr. White Wickham.
