The headmaster of the Thames South school, Mr. J. Masefield, is seriously ill with typhoid fever, but was stated this evening to have improved slightly. Dr. W. DO FEAR OF EPIDEMIC. POLLUTION OF WATER SUPPLY. There is no reason to fear an epidemic of typhoid fever at Thames, said r»r. EL Chesson, medical officer of health, yesterday, in referring to tiie reported death of one of the .12 persons who developed the disease recently. Dr. Chesson said the outbreak had probably been caused by the pollution of the water supply, which is drawn from the upper reaches of tins Tauranga Rivei and from the Waikiekie 'stream, as j* result of the heavy rainfall at the end of July. The chlorination of the water should completely eliminate the danger from the original source, and the length of time that hud clapSßcl ttiuCG tliß lftsd} notification gave every reason to hope there would be no further casies imported.
