THE DAY-TIME BOUDOIR.
The economy of space is one of the vital problems of to-day in connection with the home. Modern people do not like to bo burdened with large houses: they prefer small flats or houses which can be easily " shut up" for week-ends, visits to friends, or travelling. And, bocause of this, it, is becoming more and more the fashion to make the bedroom into i» boudoir during the day. In the morning, whon the bed .s 'made." a transformation takos placo. The pillows are removed, and only the bolster left to give a gentle curve to the bead end. A rich bedspread is then laid over the bed, and on it are flung cushions of various shapes and sizes, the aim being to give a luxurious air to the now trans formed " divan." There may be as many cushions a» personal taste demands, and these can be in silk, satin, or taffeta in various shades to harmonise or contrast with the scheme of decoration. l'hese cushions may be all - shapes— bolster, square, dia mo'nd, fan, oblong, and round. When simplicity of design, and decoration s obtained, as it is to-day, when the super fluites of the Victorian ago are all discarded, cushions can give just the added note of comfort and luxury desired. Ono of the low modern book-tables, placed "near the bed, with recesses for books, magazines, and boxes, and one or two pouffes in satin or shot-repp would complete a charming scheme. A low fender-seat would also be a very useful addition. With very little extra outlay charming boudoir schemes can be designed.
