Miss A. Browne, of Auckland, is visiting Christchurch. Mrs. Charles Nathan, of Wellington, is s guest at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. H. Kerr, of Howiek, is spending a few weeks at Warkworth. Miss Marie Carter, of Wellington, is tha guest of Mrs. P. Andrews, Remuera, Auckland. Miss I. M. Copeland, of Kenvon Avenue, Mount' Eden, is at present visiting Wellingt on. Mrs. D. M. Rodgers, of Epsom, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. W. T. Leggett, Templeton, Christchurch. Mrs, Evelyn Wheeler has returned to Auckland after studying music in London, Edinburgh and New York. Mrs. A. B. Roberton left yesterday on a visit to Japan. She will probably bo away for about six months. ''Mrs. K. Merson, of Epsom, has returned to Auckland from a visit to Wanganui where sho was the guest of Mrs. A. Bogle. Lady Cooper has returned from Hamilton and is staying with her daughter, Mrs- J. S. Emerson, Martin Avenue, Remuera. Dr. Mary Champtaloup, of the Health Department, who has been transferred from Dunedin, will arrive in Auckland to-morrow. Miss Blair, daughter of Mr. Justice Blair and Mrs. Blair, will leave next week by the Port Huon for England. From there she will go to Paris to continue her studies in art. Miss C. Cameron, of Te Ore Ore, Masterton, will arrive in Auckland early next week and. will leave by the Port Huon for England. From England she will leave for Paris where she will continue her art studies. On Wednesday, August 8, at their residence, Mr. and Mrs. James Choat celebrated the 50th anniversary of their marriage. The Rev. R. T. Alexander presided. About thirty guests, principally relatives, sat down to the wedding breakfast at which the customary toasts, with musical honours, were drunk. The bride and bridegroom, who are highly esteemed, were the recipients of many gifts, letters and telegrams of congratulations. There are four sons, four daughters and 28 grandchildren. A very enjoyable bridge party was given in the lounge of the Lyceum Club on Thursday afternoon by Miss Amv Holland, who has but recently returned from abroad. Mimosa and other spring flowers were arranged in big bowls about the room and on the tea tables were yellow daffodils and %'iolets. The guests included Mrs. Hayman, Mrs. Armstrong, Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Moorhouse, Mrs. Finn, Mrs. O'Connell, Mrs. Dransfield, Mrs. Rickerby, Mrs. Hart, Mrs. Earle, Mrs. Hamilton, Miss Mowbray, Miss Murray, Miss St. Paul, Miss. Darling, Miss C. Murray, Miss Salek, Miss C. Holland, Miss F. Murray, Miss Young.
The annual Gift Day of the Bible Training . Institute was held on Wednesday when over 350 people were present. They were welcomed by the ladies' com-, rnittce, who entertained them to afternoon tea, and showed them over the institute. Some musical items were rendered by th 9 students, of whom there are 60 now in residence. One interesting item was produced on a saw with a violin bow, by one of the boy students. Thesa students have offered their lives for service in the mission field either .at homo or abroad. Five are going out to China- in a fortnight, and a farewell meeting is to bo held next week for others going to the Sudan and Egypt General Mission. Many and varied were the gifts received of food, linen, etc., and with cash donations, amounted to about the value of £IGQ. Both Mr. Kemp, hon. president; and Mr. Sanders, spoke of tho work of the institute, and asked for- the interest and prayers of all present, besides their gifts, for the Bible Training Institute. A number of gift afternoons have been given by the members of the ladies' guild of St. George's Presbyterian Church at Takapuna during the winter months. On Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Morgan Ilichards received a large number of guests at the manse. Bowls of daffodils and violets were attractively arranged in. the drawing room, and an amusing competition was won bv Mrs. Ewing. Items were given by Mrs. Warner and Mrs. Fyfe. The gifts, whieli were particularly pretty, were opened by Mrs. Richards during the afternoon, and these are to be kept until the coming sale of work to be held in October. Included among the guests were: Mrs. Robert Frater, Mrs. Horrocks, Mi\s. Mahon, Mrs. Yaile, Mrs. G. Howie, Mrs. Nicks, Mrs. Lisk. Mrs. McDonald.
