NO HALL FOR ORATIA.
COUNCIL RESCINDS MOTION. The Waitcmata County Council yesterday reversed its decision to constitute a special loan area for the erection of a public hall at Oratia. At' a meeting last, month the council received a deputation, and it was resolved by a small majority to approve the raising of a loan. Two members of the council were absent. There was a full meeting of the council yesterday Avjien Mr. H. Day, one of the former absentees, moved for a rescission on the ground that the provision of a hall should be left to local or private enterprise. He said the council had refused to erect halls in other settlements, and added that public halls wore rarely a source of income to local bodies, Seveial members expressed the opinion that the council should not bo bound by its previous attitude. The motion for rescission was then carried by six votes to five.
