AUCKLAND ACCIDENTS.

FOREMAN FATALLY INJURED.

WORKING AT NEW STATION. KNOT ON A ROPE SLIPS. Fatal injuries to the head were received by Mr. Arthur Rogers, aged 50, of John Street, Ponsonby, while working on the new railway station in Quay Street, yesterday morning. Mr. Rogers, who was employed as a foreman by J. T. Julian and Sons, was supervising the moving of a concrete pile. A rope was fastened round tha block, and deceased was holding it in place with a piece of wood until the winch took the strain. As the rope tightened the knot slipped and Mr. Rogers was thrown several yards, receiving injuries to the head. He was taken to the Auckland" Hospital, where he died an hour later. Mr. Ptogers, who is survived by a wife and family, had been in the employ of the firm for about 25 years, about 15 years of which he had been foreman. Immediately after the accident the men of the gang under. Mr. Rogers stopped work for t,he rest of the clay as a mark of respect. While crossing Fort Street, near the National Bank Buildings, yesterday morning, Mrs. Winifred Alison, wife of Mr. Ewen W. Alison, of 62, St. Stephen's Avenue, Parnell, was knocked down by a light motor-truck, owned by the Electric Construction Company of New Zealand, and driven by Mr. William John Fisher. She sustained injuries to the head and back. Mrs. Alison had almost crossed the street, and in attempting to avoid another vehicle stepped into the path of the truck, which was proceeding toward Queen Street. She was conveyed to the hospital, and her condition last evening was stated to be comfortable. An electrical inspector, Mr. Charles Sydney Smith, aged 25, of Commercial Road, Helensville, was admitted to the Auckland Hospital yesterday morning suffering from a fractured leg. Mr. Smith is a married man.
