BOROUGH OF ONEHUNGA.

QUARTER'S TRAFFIC FE.ES. The Onehunga Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. W. C. Coldicutt, presiding. Tho city treasurer, 'Auckland, forwarded £BBO as the borough's share of the heavy'traffic licence fees for the quarter ended June 30 last. The foreman of works reported the exsoldiers' relief work was being carried out. in Curzon Street. The work of levelling the plots at the railway wharf reservo was complete, and they could bo sown in grass. A start had. been made in erecting tho concrete wall at tho beach reserve. The committee of the Carnegie Library asked tho council to pass a by-law to declare forfeit all library deposits two years old. and allow the amount to be credited to tho library account, The Mayor suggested legal opinion should be taken before passing any by-law, lest trouble be caused through demands for a refund, Mr. F. S. Morton said it was not necessary to incur this expense, as the committee could notify all subscribers their deposits would be forfeited after a certain date. Mr. ID. Morton said this might do for future subscribers, but. could notvcrv well be retrospective. The Mayor's motion was carried. Mr. R. Smith intimated his intention to press tho petition of ratepayers resident in One Tree Hill South for the formation of a separate road district. He asked to be heard at the next meeting of the council in. committee regarding a refund claimed by the One Tree Hill Road Board For water mains. The council declined to hear Mr. Smith. A letter from Mr. T. C. Enright, a member of the Devonporb Borough Council, giving details of a scheme for relieving unemployment, the cost to be met bv an increase of one-half per cent, in the primage duty on imports, was received.
