AUCKLAND'S SINS.
Sir, —I have just read an article in Monday's Herald headed "Sins of Auckland." The Salvation Army proposes to hold a "day of mourning" on August 31; to have a procession of £(} women clad in mourning robes; and the head of tho Army is to give an address on the "Damning Sins of Auckland." Are we citizens of Auckland going to tolerate this degrading exhibition? Are these people to be permitted to insult us all in this brazen manner ? Religion is ndt a thing to be cheapened by a vulgar demonstration of this kind. Will not the Anglicans, at least, make some protest against this impertinence from a religious body apparently utterly lacking, not only in self-respect, in respect for all the clergy of Auckland? Sanity.
Sir, —The Salvation Army proposes to have a mourning march for the sins of Auckland behind a band playing the "Dead March" in Saul and "Garland of Flowers." Quite apart from the fact that this barbarous proceeding will annoy intelligent people, may I remind the City Council that the only fitting occasions for such grand and solemn music are when the city mourns its dead sons on Anzac Day, or the passing of the great. -By comparison the Salvation Army march will be theatrical buffoonery and should be prohibited.
