The by-election for the Holborn seat rendered vacant owing to the elevation to the peerage of the sitting Conservative member, Sir James Remnant, resulted as follows: Mr. S. Be van (Conservative)) . . 6365 Mr. Percy Allott (Labour) . . 2238 Mr. Morton (Liberal) . . , , 2062 Conservative majority . . . . 4127 At the general election in 1924 Sir James Remnant had a majority of 7710 over his Labour opponent, Mr. W. Messer.
