A CYCLIST KILLED.
KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR.
MOTOR DRIVER VANISHES. FATALITY AT ROTORUA. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTORUA, Friday. A gardener, Mr. John O'Connor, aged 45, was killed opposite the gates of the racecourse on the Whakarewarewa Road, early this evening through being struck by a motor-car. He was riding a bicycle to his work when he was struck by the car, which was coming from the opposite direction. He sustained severe injuries to the head. The crash was heard by a pedestrian, who found Mr. O'Connor lying dead on the road.
The driver of the car left it to approach the victim of the accident, but he returned to it and drove off, after speaking to the pedestrian. When the police arrived they found large pieces of glass lying on the road and the bicycle damaged extensively. The body of the deceased was 30yds. from his bicycle. Mr. O'Connor leaves a wife and four children. He was a gardener employed at King George V. Hospital. He had resided in Rotorua for several years.
