WEEK-END WEATHER.

HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST,

The following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:— Cold and showery, weather is indicated, particularly in districts near the west coast- and in southern areas, but a temporary improvement is expected in districts northward of New Plymouth and Napier. Hail is lilec!y in western and southern areas, unci heavy snowfalls in the King Country. Southerly to south-wes-terly winds, strong to gale, and squally, decreasing, and veering to north-west. Heavy seas off (he west coast, in Cook Strait, and the Bay of Plenty; moderate to rough elsewhere. The intense Antarctic disturbance now operating has been responsible for weather conditions of a distinctly severe character over most of 1 lie Dominion. Barometric pressure is increasing temporarily, a further fall in pressure being expected to follow.

The Government, meteorologist reported last, evening as follows: —A cyclone is now centred south-west of Chatham Islands and a slight secondary wave of low pressure is crossing the Dominion, Barometers are very high in Eastern Australia. Indications are for winds still strong to 1 gale force between south-west and south, but later moderating gradually. Seas rough to heavy in all Now Zealand waters. Strong south-westerly winds to gales and rough to high sens in the eastern Tasmaii Sea. Weather- still cold and snual'ly and in most districts showery, with hail in places, improving gradually later. Some hard frosts inland.
