The most noteworthy novel in the list of new Benn books is "Mr. Blettworthy on Bampole Island," by H. G. Wells. Mme. Marie Clemenceau Jasquemaire, daughter of INI. Clemenceau, has written a book called "French Country Life," to be published in England by Williams and

Norgate. "The Female of the Species" ("Sapper"), "Again Saunders" (Edgar Wallace), "The Secret of the Creek" (Victor Bridges), "Eliza for Common" (0. Douglas) are among Hodder and Stoughton's forthcoming fiction. Bernard Shaw's long-expected book, "The Intelligent Woman's Guide to Socialism and Capitalism," was due to be published by Constable on June 1. It will be found to be G-B.S.'s declaration of faith, political, social and ethical.

An unusual kind of anthology is promised in "Novelists on Novels," edited by R. Brimley Johnson (Noel Douglas). It is a collection of the writings of novelists between the years 1660 and 1860 upon the subject of the structure and purpose of the novel.

Were the Celts Buddhists ? This probability is raised by Donald Mackenzie in his book "Buddhism in Pre-Christian Britain" (Blackie). Even the legends of St. Kentigern, Glasgow's' patron saint, are shown to bo associated with Cernunnos, a Celto-Buddhist god.

Sprint novels from Heinemann include "Swan ° Song," by John Galsworthy; "The Battle of .the Horizons," by Sylvia Thompson; "Talcs from Greenery Street," bv Denis Mack-ail; and "The Bellamy Trial," by Frances Noyes Hart, a murder story highly praised by A. A. Milne.
