THE FINGER PRINT SYSTEM.
There were 35,917 searches for fingerprint identification in Britain which 17,427 proved successful. In IJO2, 6826 searches were made, from which 1722 identifications were effected. ihe total number of finger-print slips on record at Scotland Yard is about 420,000, and a gradual increase will continue to take place until most habitual criminals have been registered. The records oi men known to have died or who are apparently too old to commit further crimo are being removed. The previous system of identifying criminals, called the anthropometric system, effected only 462 recognitions in 1900 and 503 in 1901.
