A very enjoyable bridge afternoon was given by Mrs. .W. Jeffrey at her residence,. Te Awamutu, on- Wednesday afternoon, ten tables competing in a business bridge competition. At the end of the play the scores were added up and opponents' scores subtracted. It was found that the table with Mrs. O'Sullivan, Mrs. Focke, Mrs. Potts- and Miss Chittenden bud won. Mrs. Jeffrey received her guests in a black frock with oriental trimming, Amongst those present were: Mesdames Desmond Williams, C. G. Downes, S. C. Houston, F. Bowden, L. S. Chamberlain, Ashmore, Oliphant, Hawkins, Dunne, Reece, Armstrong, Lord, Blundell, O'Sullivan, C. Storey, Focke, A. Pollard, S. C. Houston, A. J. Storey, Potts, Ray-mond-Jones, Brooks, Hama, R. Kay, Chittenden, McCarroll, McCurdie, A. .1. McGovern, Herbert (Pahiatna), Childs, Mandeno, Misses E. Chittenden, K. M. Jones, R. Lord, Elliott. Irwin, Focke. Evening at Lyceum Club. On Tnuisaay the Musical Circle entertained the rest of the club at an open evening in the club room. There was a big attendance of members, who listened with appreciation to an enjoyable musical programme. Those who. contributed items were: Mrs. Sinclair and Mrs. H. Ferguson, who played "Germany," from "Foreign Parts," by Moskowski; Miss Moule, Miss N. Valder, Miss D. Clapham, Mrs. H. Hammond, Mrs. Sherley, Miss R. Vickery, Mrs. C. Bennett and Mrs. A. English. Supper„vvas served at the end of the programme. Among those present were Mrs. Stace,' Mrs. Furze, Mrs. F. Vickery, Mrs. Ci Bennett, Mrs. Pinfold. Mrs. M. Miss Linda [Bray has returned from her holiday m New Plymouth. Miss N. Douglas, of Hamilton, is visiting Palmerston North. ] Mrs. Struthers, of Fiji, is the guest of Mrs. Montgomery, of Ohanpo Road. Mrs. Joseph of Hamilton, is staying at the Grand Hotel, Auckland.
