There was a large altendance at the ofliciul openif.g of the new On vent stfiool at Ngaruawahia yesterday. The building, which contains two rooms, is lunlt of local bricks, and splendidly finished and furnished, each pupil having a table and chair. Before the proceedings commenced tlioso nresent were entertained at afternoon tea by ihc sisters. After the building had been blessed by Bishop Clearv, assisted by Father Curley, Father "O'Flynn, Father O'Connor, Father O'Carroll and Father Kehoe, the bishop congratulated the people of the parish and their priest on the good work (hoy had done for education by providing such a splendid school. Speaking on education, he stressed the importance of coordinating the home, the Church, and (ho school, and in developing a strong Christian character. Father Curley thanked all present for thoir attendance, the bishop for his kindness in attending the function, and tlio parishioners for their loyal support. Ihe school had cost £I3OO and £6OO was still owing. It would cost £IOO to fence and improve tho grounds. Ho, therefore, made a still further appeal to (he generosity of the people. Short speeches were given by Mr. W. Ben Mart in, M.P. for Raglan, Mr. E. (ienrge, chairman of the HnnUy Town Hoard, Tvlr. 11. T> Duxfield, and Mr. Gate, the. contractor for the building.
