COOKS BESOMING WORK.
free labour compensated. LABOUR LEADERS HECKLED. (Hcceivccl Juno If. 8.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, Juno 38. Tho marine cooks continuo to return to work and the shipowners are busy refitting their idle ships. It is anticipated that within a fortnight all the vessels affected by the recent strike will again bo in commission and that the normal services will be resumed. - At a meeting in Melbourne the owners decided to pay off tho volunteer crows and to compensate them with ono month's wages in addition to payment for tho services given. A largely attended meeting of unionists at the Gaiety Theatre, Melbourne, was addressed by Messrs. W. Duggan and G. Crofts, officials of the Trades Union Council, on the aftermath of tho marine cooks' strike. Tho speakers were interrupted by interjectors who blamed the council for the failure of the strike and shouted: "You sold us," " traitors," " squibs," " frauds '' and similar pleasantries. Mr. Duggan said tho outcome of the strike had been an ignominious defeat, but Mr. Crofts contended that tho cooks had lost little, if anything. At Brisbane the volunteer crew on board tho Mildura were paid off and unionists are now being engaged. As a result the wharf labourers are prepared to unload the vessel,.
