WHITFORD OUTLET.
Sir,—On Saturday, Juno 16, a meeting of ratepayers of Turanga Riding was held in Whitford Hall to discuss an outlet for Whitford. There appeared to be a difference in opinion, one jarty supporting a road above the Muugaroa Gorge and the other the Beach Road below the gorge. I agree with those who state that the gorge is dangerous. Last Sunday "ight I was returning to town, when suddenly I beheld that the council had been fixing a culvert. There was a nice little ditch, about six inches deep and nearly nine inches wide, right across the road. Before I could stop the car received a very severe shaking, and my hat was bashed over mv eyes by the roof of the car. After an inspection of my car I find four leaves of the springs broken. Why discuss a new road when a few shovelfuls of metal would remove all the danger? Of course I will admit there have been accidents on this terrible gorge; two or three cars have been burnt, and some drivers have stripped their gears and differentials in changing down to second. Puzzled.
