BOROUGH OF ONEHUNGA.

TRANSPORT AFFAIRS. The Onehunga Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. W. C. Coldicutt, presiding. In reply to the council's complaint, the chairman of the Transport Commission wrote stating the council had been cited as a partv to the inquiry, and had been represented by counsel, the commission hearing the evidence tendered. The council's protest was received rather late, but at the time of writing he was prepared to consider a brief statement. It was stated, however, that the Mayor had seen Mr. Meredith, and the latter had advised it would bo unwise to reopen the matter. Mr. F. S. Morton said the .incident had put him in an awkward position, for at the conference of local bodies various people had questioned him over Onehunga being ignored, maintaining that the Mayor was present when delegates were appointed to represent the local bodies. The Mayor said that when the matter came up a fortnight ago it had slipped his memory that the appointments were made at a meeting attended by him. The town clerk of Auckland wrote on behalf of Wo. 1 Licensing Authority, stating the City Council would meet in that capacity next Tuesday to consider applications for permission to establish motor bus services in the area controlled by it, also for amendment of time-tables and fares, and invited the council to be heard if 4t so desired. The particular services of direct interest are the Auckland-Otahuhu, via Favona Road, and tho Auckland-Te Papapa time-table. It was decided Mr. Speight should attend, to watch the interests of the Te Papapa residents. The district engineer of tho Public Works Department wrote stating there appeared to be no justiffration for the closing of any portion of Mount Pleasant Road, as proposed, and, therefore, the Governor-General will not be advised to issue any proclamation having .as its object .the'closing of the area. It was decided to advise the trustees of Misses Smyth accordingly. In reply to Mr. F. S. Morton, the town clerk stated no reply to the council's letter had been received from the Fire Board. Mr. Alex. Robb was appointed assessor for tho borough for the ensuing year. Fourteen building permits were issued during the fortnight.
