NEW ZEALANDERS AT HOME.
[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] LONDON, May 19. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Hellaby (Auckland) will be in London for a while prior to setting out on a motor tour through England to Scotland. A month will be devoted to the Continent prior to returnin" home about September, via America. Colonel J. D. Grant, V.C., D.5.0., has been appointed Deputy-Director of the Auxiliary and Territorial Forces in India. When serving in the Bth Gurkha Rifles in Tibet he was awarded the Victoria Cross for scaling a cliff face under fire and ensuring (he success of the assault. He was one of the officers sent with General Sir Alexander Godley to organise the New Zealand Force on a war basis. He served with Force "D" in Mesopotamia. The King's Medal, with clasp, 1927, for the, champion shot of the military forces of New Zealand, has been won by Lieutenant T. J. Denton, New Zealand Permanent Air Force. ... i The Earl of Ranfurly has left London for Schinznach Bains, Switzerland. Lady Rrtufurly is in London. Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Wilson (Auckland) and their son motored through to Scotland this week to attend the golf tournament at I'restwich, Ayrshir. Their daughters arc again at school. During the recent vacation they went for a motoi tour of the Western counties. Commander Nelson Clover, ILN., has been appointed Commanding Officer of If.M.S. Philomel and Naval Officer in Charge at Auckland, vice Commander F. C. Bradley. Commander Clover has only recently returned from the China Station. With his wife and family he will leave by the Rotorua on June 8. His appointment dates Irorn May 25. Dr. J. McMurrav Cole, medical superintendent of the Waihi Hospital, has come to England partly on pleasure and partly on post-graduate work, but Mrs. Cole, who is also a doctor, will not be doing any study during this trip. Arriving in England on Good Friday, they motored through Devonshire, Cornwall and Shropshire before reaching London, and they arc at present staying with Mrs. Cole's parents at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Since arriving they have bought a small motor-car, which has enabled them to see a good deal of England. Mr. Frank J. Sanderson and Miss Sanderson (Auckland) have been wintering in Spain. They are now passing through London on their way to North Wales. In all probability they will leave for New Zealand about September. Mr. Lawrence Edward Moss, a former well-known business man in Sydney, and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Moss Davis, formerly of Auckland, died suddenly at his residence at Hampstead oil 2. He was 65 years of age.
