EPSOM SUMMER MEETING. KING'S FILLY DEFEATED. Australian Press Association—United Service LONDON, June S. The Epsom Summer Meeting was continned to-day. Strong hopes were entertained that His Majesty would furnish t-hp winner of the Oaks Stakes with Scuttle, who led the field home in the One Thousand Guineas, run at Newmarket last month. Scuttle was made a pronounced favourite, but she was defeated. The following are the details: —
THE OAKS STAKES. Of £IOO each, with £2OOO added; for three_-year-old fillies foaled in 1925; 9.0 each; miles. TOBOGGAN, Lord Derby's b.f. by Hurry On —Glacier . . .... 1 SCUTTLE, His Majesty's b.f. by Captain Cuttle —Stained Glass . . 2 FLEGERE, Mr. S. Tafctersall's ch.f. by Grand Parade—Corrie . . . » 3 Thirteen ran. Toboggan won by four lengths from Scuttle, who was six lengths in front of Flegere. Toboggan, winner of the Oaks, early played galloping ability, for she won three of the four races in which she contested at two years old, her victories being gained in the Champion Breeders' Plate at Derby, and the Boscawen Plate aiid Dewhurst Plate at Newmarket. Toboggan's triumph in the last-named was especially meritorious, for she carried a 71b. penalty and romped over the opposition. In the decision of the One Thousand Guineas, Toboggan finished in third place to Scuttle and Jurisdiction.
