WATER REBATE REFUSED. The Onehunga Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. W. C. Coldicutt } presiding. A further application from Mr. S. T. Goodall, on behalf of Chinese market, gardeners, asking for a rebate on the charge of 2s a thousand gallons of water, was declined. An application for a rebate on the charge for water supplied to the Manukau Hotel, 011 the ground that there was an underground leakage, was referred to the finance committee. The medical officer of hftilth reported on the petition against establishing a racing stable in Clarke Road. lie said he was certainly averse to the proposal, especially having six stalls situated so close to a house, and without a concrete floor and drainage. Trouble could naturally lie expected from flies if horses were allowed to run on the section. A special resolution, striking the rates for the current year and again offering f> per cent, discount for those paid within one month of the due date, was carried. The Mangere United Football Club advised that five outside teams played on the reserve on May 26. necessitating local teams going away. Mr. F. 8. Morton said he thought the council should provide. for all three codes, and on his motion the application for increased accommodation was referred to the reserves committee. A request for n street lamp in Spring Street was received from 24 residents, and was referred to the lighting committee. During the past fortnight 13 building permits were issued.
