DAVIS CUP CONTEST.
FINAL IN AMERICAN ZONE. JAPAN LOSES AT CHICAGO. Australian Press Association -United Service CHICAGO, June 2. In the final match in the American zone in the Davis Cup competition the United States defeated Japan by winning the first three of the five matches. W. T. Tilden defeated Abe, 6—2; 6 3, 6 0; Hennessey defeated Ohta, B—6,8 —6, 6—3, 6—3. In tiio doubles Tilden and Lott defeated Abe and Toba, 6—l, 10—8, b—2. An analysis of the singles shows that Japan offered to the Americans only a little more resistance than did the Chinese players. Hennessey,, it is true, was extended to the limit of his resources in the first set, and the gallery showed its appreciation of Ohta'si superb playing by almost continuous applause. But the American's steadier play made victory inevitable. Ohta is no doubt one of the coming players of lawn tennis, but it will be some time before he need be reckoned with seriously. Tilden easily defeated Abe. NEW ZEALAND SCRATCHES. CZECHS GIVEN WALK-OVER. Australian Press Association —United Service (Received June 3, 5.5 p.m.) PRAGUE, June 2.
