There was no semblance of luck about Sir Moment's win in the Tararua Hurdles at the Otaki meeting to-day. as the old gelding was well placed throughout, and finished better than his opponents. Had Whisogne been more patiently handled he must have, made the winner's ta«k more difficult, but as the race waa run Whisogne was lucky to beat Lady Gay, who slipped after landing over the last fence. Star Shell, who stripped very big, ran remarkably well till he fell after going a mile. Hymestrason appeared to be beaten when he fell with Star Shell. Handled with better judgment. Glengari'.ff must have been closer than fourth. While Consent was backed as the best of good things for the Kuka Stakes, he was far from the certainty the majority thought he was. Always well placed just behind Just So, and he up to that youngster without much effort, but over the last furlong Just So hung on well, and it looked as if superior condition won the race for Consent. Royal Lover did not. begin aa well as expected, and did really well to got within half a-length of the winner. Another two-year-old in Tcheka ran well into fifth place, just behind Gold Cure. To win the Waitohu Hack. Mark Mint 1 registered a fair performance, but one or two of his opponents did not appear to be lucky in the running. Spearmiss certainly finished well to fill second place, hut had Keddar been more fortunate he must have filled second place. The favourite, Chelono, could not act in the soft ground and Lady's Boy tired over the final stages. When much fancied at. Wanganui, Ring Boy let his connections down badly, but in the Raukawa. Cup to-day he came from some distance back to win well. Gleilross was always well placed and finished generously enough, but on the day had no chance with Ring Boy. A lot of use was made of Kilperon. and even then Glonross only beat him for second place. Ridden by R. Reed, Nukumai ran a good fourth, whilo Royal Damon ran a good nine furlongs. Avro and Bisox were the only two supported to any extent for the Otaki Hack Handicap, and the pair outclassed the oppo-, sition. Avro was out forcing the pace in the early stages, but had sufficient in reserve to withstand a good finishing run by Bisos. King Mart again ran a fair race for minor place-money. There was a lot of merit in Monaghan's win in the Huia Handicap, as he got squeezed out when the tapes rose, and oven with a furlong to go was curing the leading division a big -start. He did really well, although he beat H'elotis only by a head. Helotis showed all her customary brilliancy by leading until well into the straight. Limited was one of the quickest to begin, and was iust behind Helotis at the straight entrance, so it would appear that he is going back. • Aftex being one of tho leading division throughout. Fee Simple finished a creditable third, while Kaiti finished remarkably well to gain fourth place. He may go better soon. Considering his recent form, it was strange that Maui was neglected in tho betting for the Tehoro Hack Handicap. L. Morris always had the gelding well placed, and in the straight he literally flew paßt Holura Bolus, to win very easily. Holus Bolus had every chance under the horsemanship of B. Morris, but had no chance with the winner. Shining Star ran a fair race, a remark that applies to Pangolin and Borsalin®.
