HOSPITAL AUXILIARY.
APPEAL TO THE PUBLIC. SUM OF OVER £IOOO EXPECTED. The sum of £BO4 was collected yesterday as the result of the street appeal made by the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary. On the day of the collection last year the auxiliary had in hand the sum of £796. When returns come in from various functions held daring the .week in connection with the auxiliary's appeal, the total is expected to be brought up to over £IOOO. Yesterday's appeal was organised by the Mayoress, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, Mrs. A. Kidd, president of the auxiliary, and Dr. Buckley Turkington, seci'etary-of the committee making arrangements, and many other social workers. From early morning to dark hundreds of helpers were on the streets with boxes, and they met with a ready response from the public. Among those who gave their services for the day were members of the J. C. Williamson Company, now appearing at His Majesty's Theatre. / Mrs. Campbell stated that the result of the jippeal was all the more gratifying when it was considered that no assistance had been received from marine suburbs this year. These suburbs assisted last year. She added that she wished to thank the many helpers and also the public for their generosity.
