AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE DAY OF AVERAGE BUSINESS. Transactions on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday were about the average. Investors sought all classes of War Loans and Inscribed Stocks, but holders showed little disposition to quote. War Loan, 1938, 4£ per cent., sold at £97 17s 6d, tho current price, with inquiry firm at £97 15s. An early quotation of £9B was withdrawn at mid-day. In commercial debentures Auckland Gas, 1935, 6i- per cent., were sold at £lO2 ss, a reduction of 5s on the price paid last week and of 15s on that of the previous week. The latest selling figure is still 5s in advance of that at which first business in the debentures was done on the market at the beginning of the month. In banks New South Wales were listed ex dividend Buyers were firm at £4B ss, but sellers withdrew from the market after having quoted £4B 12s 6d in the morning. Nationals of New Zealand sold at the current rate of £7 ss, more being wanted at that figure, sellers firm at £7 7s. The firming tendency for New Zealands was maintained, and sale was made at 60s 6d,, moro being available at the same price, buyers 60s 3d. The market for insurance shares was also better, New Zealands selling at 42s 3d, an increase of threepence on the previous sale, and South British at 61s 6d, an advance of 6d. In gas Aucklands closed slightly easier at 23s 4d and 23s 2d, compared with tho opening rates of 23s 9d and 23s 3d. A parcel of the shares changed hands at 23s 3d. In miscellaneous Colonial Sugars sold at £6O 10s. Tho last time this price was paid on the Auckland market for these shares was in April of last year. More were available yesterday at £6l, but buyers did not respond after midday, when they offered £6O ss. The following sales took place:—War Loan, 1938, 4£ per cent., £97 17s 6d; Auckland Gas, 1935, 6& per cent., £lO2 ss; National Bank of Now Zealand, £7 ss; Bank .of New Zealand, 60s 6d; New Zealand Insurance, 42? 3d; South British, 61s 6d; Auckland Gas, 23s 3d; Huddart* Parker, 46s lOd; Colonial Sugar, £6O 10s; Farmers' Fertiliser, 87s 6d.
