BOROUGH OF NORTHCOTE.

COST OF THE DESTRUCTOR. The Northcote Borough Council met la;;t evening, the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, presiding. The Takapuna Council notified that so far payments made in respect of the erection of the North Shore refuse destructor amounted to £1734. The proportion payable so far by Northcote was £lB2. As the total amount of the loan could not be ascertained until completion of the work, it was decided to request permission from the Local Government Loans Board to pay the progress payments from bank overdraft in the meantime, and to raise one loan for the total when the actual amount was known. The work is being carried out on a requisition from the Board of Health, Wellington, so that tbe loan may be raised without reference to the ratepayers at a poll. A donation of £2 2s was voted to the Birkenhead Borough Band, in recognition of services rendered at public functions in the Northcote district. It was agreed to accept dedication of a strip of land, 10ft. wide, along thf 330 ft. frontage of the Major estate in Belle Vila Avenue, as & complete settlement of any claim in respect to reconstruction of the street to the full width throughout. Messrs R. Martin, A. T. Munn and W. C. Ellis were appointed to represent the council at the conference of local bodies to protest against the increased hospital levy.
