HUGE CHARGE FIRED.
BLASTING IN ,QUARRY. NINETEEN TONS OF EXPLOSIVE* i [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Sunday, A. charge of 19 tons of explosive was fired in Wilsons Portland cement quarry yesterday. It is estimated that the explosion released 200,000 tons of rock. For many months workmen were engaged in drilling the holes to take the gelignite, since in seme cases the borfa went down for 200 ft. into the earth. In all, 21 holes were drilled, and the work of filling them with the charge was commenced last Tuesday.
