JAPANESE WARSHIPS.
AUCKLAND VISIT IN JULY. DISTINGUISHED COMMANDER. Tho Japanese warships Idzumo and Yakumo, which will visit Auckland in July, will be under the command of ViceAdmiral S. Kobavashi, a distinguished officer whoso duties have frequently brought him into close touch with British interests. Ho also has a knowledge of New Zealand waters, having been engaged in 1917 .as captain of the Hirado, in patrol work off tho coasts of New Zealand and Australia. In 1912 he was stationed in England and was attached to H.M.S. Collingwood. at that time commanded by Admiral Sir Dudley do Chair, now Governor of New South Wales. After the war, Admiral Kobayashi became naval attache at the Japanese Embassy in London, and also represented the Japanese Navy on the Allied Council for the disposal of enemy vessels. Ho was a delegate for Japan at the conference on tho limitation of armaments, held at Geneva last year. The commander of the Idzumo is Captain M. Hirota, who was stationed at Singapore during the war as liaison officer. Captain Idemitsu, who commands the Yakumo, was stationed for some years in England.
