OPPORTUNITY FOR AMATEURS A SECOND COMPETITION. Talent in the art of advertismentwriting and designing, which has hitherto been dormant, is given to-day a further opportunity of revealing itself in an interesting and unusual manner. On another page are given details of a second competition which has been arranged by the JSiEW Zealand Herald, in conjunction with four more prominent advertisers. Four prizes of £5 each are to be awarded for the most striking and original advertisements concerning the subject matter advertised. The competition is limited to amateurs, and it is possible to win all four prizes. The first competition waS announced in Thursday's Herald, and the total prize-money for the two competitions is £4O. Lack of experience in writing for commercial purposes should not deter entrants from submitting their efforts. It is interesting to recall that a competition of a similar nature some years ago was won by an advertisement contributed by a farmer in a remote bush settlement, who had previously not considered himself possessed of gifts in this direction. Advertisers are constantly on the watch for the new idea, and the happy expression in line and language which will help them in conveying their messages to the public, and the competitions now being held may. be the means of opening up fresh fields of endeavour to the successful entrants. The judging will be carried out by an expert committee, consisting cf a member of the Herald staff, a representative of one of the leading advertising agencies and a member of the Auckland Advertising Club. Entries must not be sent to the Herald, but to the advertiser concerned.
