FLIGHT OF ITALIA.
HEAVY GALE AT POLE. ARRIVAL AT SVALBARD. MIDNIGHT WELCOME GIVEN. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. (Received May 25, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. May 24. Ihe airship Italia, with the Italian explorer, General Nobili, and crew on board, remained over the North Pole for an hour, between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., and then left to return to Svalbard. Reports from King's Bay, Svalbard, say an adverse north-west gale was so strong that General Nobili was unable to carry out his full plans. It was impossible to land at tho North Pole because the anchor would not have held. They could not drop the Pope's wooden commemorative cross or the Italian .flag. In a wireless message received at 11 a.m. to-day the explorers said they were flying over unexplored parts of North Greenland. On their arrival at King's Bay at midnight they found tho city bcflagged in their honour.
