NEW ZEALAND DINNER.

ANNUAL LONDON GATHERING. PRINCE THE CHIEF GUEST. Australian Press Association—United Service (Received May 22, 9.55 i.xn.) LONDON, May 21. The Prince of Wales was the chief guest at the annual dinner of the New Zealand Association. There was an attendance of 400, including the Secretary of State for the Dominions, Mr. L. S. Amery, Earl Jellicoe, the President of the Board of Education, Lord Eustace Percy, Lord Kylsant, the shipping magnate, Sir Joseph Ward, Mr. Pember Reeves, a former High Commissioner, Sir Ernest Rutherford, the famous physicist. Sir James Mills, chairman of the Union Steam Ship Company. The High Commissioner, Sir James Parr, who presided, contrasted the adverse trade balance of £2,500,000 last year with the favourable balance of £10,500,C00. The Prince responding to the toast of his health, said he had compared memories with the Duke of York. They agreed that the country would have a great future. The presence of so many Empire builders, and the figures quoted by Sir James Parr, proved the needlessness of undue boasting. The Prince said he rejoiced that New Zealand cadets were now eligible for entry at Sandhurst and Woolwich Military Academies. Mr. Amery predicted that the future of New. Zealand in the Pacific would equal that of Britain in the Atlantic., The New Zealand dinner was this year arranged by the newly constituted New Zealand Association, and was to be held at the Savoy Hotel. The band of the Welsh Guards was engaged for the evening. Each member of the New Zealand Association is permitted to invite a guest, preferably a London business roan, and provision was made for New Zealanders who were paying a temporary visit to the country.
