DEATH FROM BURNS.

CHILD PLAYING IN KITCHEN. SCALDED BY BOILING SOUP. How scalds sustained through boiling soup being splashed over her resulted recently in the death of Reta Hegh, aged 2 years, was revealed at the inquest held yesterday. The child lived with her parents in Papakura. "In th 9 morning my daughter-in-law, Mrs. Frances Hegh, came to my place and asked me to look after the children while she went in to Auckland," said Mrs. Evelyn A. Thornelly, grandmother of the child. "While I was preparing the evening meal the children were playing in the kitchen. Just as I was carrying a pot of boiling soup into the scullery one of the children pushed Reta toward me and some of the soup splashed over the child." Mrs. Thornelly had rendered first-aid and had notified a chemist. When the child was medically attended her removal to the Auckland Hospital was ordered. Two days after her admission she died. Death was due to shock, following scalds to the neck, chest and face, according to Dr. Alfred Noakes, who ex* amined the child at the hospital. A verdict in accordance with doctor's evidence was returned by Mr. F. K. Hant, S.M., coroner.
