NOTES FROM WHANGAREI.
NEW TOWN CLERK APPOINTED CONTROL OF ANZAC DAY FUND. [SY TELEGRAPH.—-OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WHANGAREI, Tuesday. Mr. Alex. D. Jack, who recently resigned membership of the Whangarei Borough Council after eight years' service, and who had latterly been chairman of the Finance Committee, was last evening appointed town clerk, in the place of Mr. C. L. Grange, who has been appointed town clerk of Invercargill. There were 71 applicants for the Whangarei position. Officials of the Empire Ex-Service Association waited on the Mayor and representatives of the Borough Council yesterday asking that the control of the Anzac Day collection fund be handed to tho association, so that the money collected might be used in the relief of djstressed soldiers and their dependants.' Upon, receiving an assurance that the association would undertake to deal with all ex-service men seeking work, the Mayor approved the proposal, which was ratified by the council last evening. Provision ,is made for the local body to subsidise the Anzac Day fund from its employment fund.
