FODDER FOR CATTLE.
A SERIOUS SHORTAGE. WAIUKU AND MAUK.U DISTRICTS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.) HAMILTON, Sunday. A serious shortage of cattle fodder is being experienced in tho Waiuku and Mauku districts following the prolonged dry spell during the early months of this year, and concern is feit by farmers as to how they are to feed their cows during the winter. It has become necessary for them to purchase supplies of fodder elsewhere, and with a view to assisting them representatives of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy ( Company, Limited, approached the Government to see if something could not be done to obtain free railage of fodder. The Hon. O. J. Hawken, Minister of Agriculture, to whom representations were made, was sympathetic, and it is understood that arrangements are nearly completed by which considerable assistance for the transport of fodder will he given by the Railwav Department. The Dairy Company has offered to assist suppliers in connection with tho purchase of supplies.
