A ROYAL VICTORY.

NEWMARKET CLASSIC RACE. THE KING'S FILLY SCORES. British Wireless. RUGBY, May 4. King George won his first classic race to-day, when his filly, Scuttle, was successful in the One Thousand Guineas race at Newmarket. The King and the Prince of Wales were present. The victory of the King's filly gave rise to great enthusiasm, the assemblage with bared heads cheering loudly for some minutes. The following are the details of the race:— ONE THOUSAND GUINEAS STAKES; A sweepstake of £IOO each, with 1000 guineas added; for three-year-old fillies, 9.0 each; Rowley mile. SCUTTLE, His Majesty's br f, by Captain Cuttle—Stained Glass, 9.0 1 JURISDICTION, Lord Dewar's b f, by Abbot's Trace—Lady Juror, 9.0 2 TOBOGGAN, Lord Derby's b f, by Hurry On—Glacier, 9.0 . . . , 3 Fourteen started. Scuttle won by a length from Jurisdiction, who finished six lengths in front of Toboggan. Scuttle started a firm favourite, but was not at prohibitive odds. The second tilly was at a good double-figure quotation, while Toboggan was at half those odds. The last borse to win a. classic race for the reigning monarch was Minoru, which won the Two Thousand Guineas and the Derby n 1909 under the colours of King Edward Scuttle, who was bred by His Majesty, contested five races at two years old and she won three of her engagements: but as the total amount of stake money credited to her when racing as a juvenile only amounted to £2947 she was not included with tho first flight of juveniles. Scuttle opened her three-year-old career with a win in the Brandon Handicap run at Newmarket last month, and that no doubt contributed largely to bring her into tho position of favourite for the One Thousand Guineas. Scuttle is engaged in the Oaks Stakes, which event is set down for decision at Epsom next month.
