BREMEN RELIEF FLIER.

DEATH OF BENNETT,, SUCCUMBS TO PNEUMONIA. WIDOW NOW SERIOUSLY ILL. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. (Received April 2G. 5.5 pan.) QUEBEC, April 25. The death occurred this morning of the American aviator, Lieutenant Fioyd Bennett, who had flown with Lieutenant Balchen from Detroit to aid the crew of the Bremen. He was kept alive for some hours with oxygen. Colonel Lindbergh's trip was vain, because the serum he brought from the .Rockefeller Institute was only effective against types of pneumonia less virulent than that which Lieutenant Bennett was suffering from. Commander Byrd is greatly affected by the death of Lieutenant Bennett, for -whom he entertained a very keen personal affection, and with whom he had shared hardships and triumphs. Ho was to have accompanied Commander Byrd on his forthcoming Antarctic flight. The latter has agreed to the proposal of the Navy Department at Washington for the burial of Lieutenant Bennett's remains at the Arlington National Cemetery on Friday. The body is to be sent to New York tomorrow and will bo escorted to the station with full military honours on behalf of the Quebec Government. Commander Byrd will name his South Polar plane the Floyd Bennett memorial plane. 4 The widow of the deceased airman is now ill in the hospital where her husband died She is prostrated and suffering from tonsilitis and a general breakdown, the result of her ordeal. Flags in the city are being flown at half-mast.
