THEFT OF DIAMOND RING.
GEM VALUED AT £750. MAN COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ABBOCIATION. j WELLINGTON, Thursday. The story of the theft of a diamond ring, valued at £750, from Jenness and Partridge, jewellers, by Trevor Leonard Richard Cunningham, aged 28, a taxidriver, was related in the Police Court to-day.
Evidence was given that Cunningham went to complainants' shop, where he said his name was Lowry, a racehorse owner. He was shown the ring, which he took to the door, presumably to see it better, and then ran away with it.
Accused was seen later in the afternoon by Detective Jarrold showing the ring to someone in a hotel bar. When accused saw the detective he put the ring down one of his socks.
Cunningham pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence to the Supreme Court.
