AWARD FOR THE BLIND.

INDUSTRIAL COMPETITION. JUDGE VOICES OBJECTION. " It seems to me absurd to bring blind workers holus-bolus under the award/' declared Sir. Justice Frazer in the Arbitration Court yesterday, when cursorily considering a joint application by employers and employees to add-the Jubilee Institute for the Blind to the rattan and wicker workers' award.

Blind workers were under entirely different conditions from sighted workers, His Honor added, and he foresaw many difficulties in any attempt to include blind men under the same award. He knew there were t hardships on both sides, but it would cripple that branch of the institute's activities to bring its workers under the award.

It was mentioned by Mr. S. E. Wright, secretary of the Employers' Association, that a serious position was arising through the institute " cutting" prices. There was some hope of good being done by bringing the case under the notice of the Court. A similar question had arisen about two years ago, and a suggestion had been made that prices should be so arranged as not to affect other business engaged in the same activity.

The application will he heard on Thurs day.
