KILLED BY A TRAIN.
DEATH OF ELDERLY MAN. ENGINE STRIKES PEDESTRIAN. CROSSING AT NEW LYNN. A level crossing fatality occurred in Totara Avenue, New Lynn, last evening, Mr. George Kelly, aged 60, being instantaneously killed by the engine of a train approaching the New Lynn station from Auckland. The crossing where the accident occurred is close to the New Lynn station on the Auckland side. Mr. Kelly, who was crossing the lines on his way to the township, was struck by the engine and was thrown on to the cattle-stop at the side of the road. His neck was broken by the impact. Mr. Kelly, who was a widower with a grown-up family, lived alone in Seaview Avenue, New Lynn. An inquest will bo held this morning. FATALITY IN SOUTHLAND. SURFACEMAN ON JIGGER. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] INVERCARGILL, Monday. The railway surfaceman, Frederick Ross, who was struck by a train on Saturday night, while proceeding home on a jigger, died in the hospital from a fractured skull.
