POPPY DAY.

Sir, ——Will you kindly allow me to express the thanks of my association and acknowledge the debt which it and all Auckland returned soldiers owe to the people of Auckland in connection with the street collection on Poppy Day. The association's deepest gratitude is due and offered to the Mayoress and all her many enthusiastic and willing helpers, the many public bodies and firms which have ordered wreaths, and made donations to the fund, the many kin.d w friends who offered their help, various taxi drivers and owners who would not accept payment, the City Council for the use of tables and decorations, etc., the revenue department of the tramways who counted the money, the press for very welcome publicity, private car owners who gave the use of their cars and drivers, friends who gave welcome refreshment during the day to the poppy sellers, the anonymous donor of £lO, the public who so generously responded to the appeal, the messenger service which gave valuable help and last, but by no means least, those willing helpers who gave their time and labour, behind the line, as it were, which means so much in successfully organising such an effort. I hope that I have not forgotten anyone, if I have, will they please forgive me. My association is very oeeply grateful to all. The response was overwhelming, and what is as valuable as the actual cash received perhaps, is the indisputable fact that we have the svmpathv and confidence of the public in our efforts. If I may do so I ask the people to continue their sympathy in a practical manner by remembering the " di fT £;er " when they have employment to offer. * My association will be opening a fresh employment register shortly, when I hope we shall receive many applications for men. E. H. Sharp, Secretary. Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association.
