THE EGG PRODUCER.

PROTECTION OF INTERESTS. NEW ASSOCIATION FORMED. NEED FOR ORGANISATION. A proposal to establish a society to Further the interests of the poultry industry in the Auckland Province received enthusiastic support at a meeting of poul-try-keepers held in the Trades Hall last evening, and the formation of an organisation known as the Auckland Egg Producers' Association resulted. An attendance of about 150 was presided over by Mr. E. D. McLennan, M.P. for Franklin. In submitting a draft of the constitution of the association to the meeting the chairman said there was little doubt but that poultry-keepers would be able to improve their position very considerably if they were properly organised. The New Zealand Poultry-Breeders' Association and the Auckland Poultry-keepers' Association were already in existence, but it was felt that the proposals now brought down would enable the greater degree of co-operation warranted by the growth of the industry to be put into effect throughout the province The draft was then submitted to the meeting, and with minor amendments was finally approved. Among the staled objects of the association is to press for such legislation as may be required to keep the industry on a payable basis and to endeavour to have removed existing anomalies in the laws governing the importation of foodstuffs and the price of bran and pollard ; to attend to making the necessary arrangements for the export of surplus eggs when required and to watch the interests of poultry-keepers in the marketing of eggs and poultry without, however, the association marketing eggs locally. It was decided to fix the amount of the annual subscription on the same basis as that of the New Zealand Poultry Association. The question whether application should be made for affiliation with the New Zealand Poultry Association was left to' the executive committee for further investigation. The meeting affirmed the principle of forming district branches within the province, leaving the details to be considered at a later date. The following were appointed to act as a temporary executive committee with power to elect a temporary president:— Messrs. W. G. Lynn, T. H. Evans, R. S. Hiergnibotham, H. A. J. Edgeley, J. Ingham, F .H. Wells and A. Selwood. A substantial membership was enrolled at the conclusion of the meeting.
