NEW MAIN HIGHWAY.

PART OF MT. ALBERT RGAD.

ROAD BOARD'S SATISFACTION.

It is not often that a local body chairman has such a pleasant duty as fell to the lot ol Mr. E. F- Jones, presiding at a mneting of the Mount Roskill Road Board last evening. For years the board has been agitating for Mount Albert Road t-o be declared a main highway. The matter came up last evening in the form of an application from the Mount Albert Borough Council that the board should iay a storm-water drain between Beagle Avenue and Vincent Road.

Tho chairman stated the whole position had changed since last meeting, and he read an extract from the Gazette of April 5, declaring Mcrant Albert* Road a main highway. He said it was extremely gratifying that at long last the board's urgent recommendation had been granted, for thin was vastly superior to the previous notification that tho road was >o be a secondary highway. It was decided to inform the Mount 'Albert Council of the: new position, that Mount Albert Road is a main highway from the Royal Oak to Vincent Road, a distance of about three miles, and that all further work must therefore be done in conjunction with the ■ Main Highways Board.
