OBITUARY.

MR. CHARLES SIMS. Australian Press Association—United Service LONDON, April 16. The death has occurred of Mr. Charles Sims, a Royal Academician, aged 55.

The late Mr, Charles Sims was born in Islington, London, in 1873. Educated at a private school he entered tho office of a commission acent in Paris in 1837. He began to study art at the National Art Training School in South Kensington in 1890. He attended the Academie Julian, uuder J. Lo Febvre and Benjamin Constant, 1891, and the Royal Academy Schools, 1893. He first exhibited at the Roval Academy iu 1894. His picture, " Childhood," painted in 1896, was purchased in 1900 for the Musee du Luxembourg, Paris, and obtained a medal at the Salon. Some of llis pictures are in the Tate Gdlery and in the municipal collections o'. Leeds, Bristol, Christchurch, New Zealand, Durban and Pietormaritzburfl.
