AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE REVIVAL OF ACTIVITY. There was a pronounced revival of activity on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, when the volume of business showed a considerable increase over the previous day's transactions. In Government securities inquiry was restricted, but there was a sale of Inscribed Stocks, 1938, 4£ per cent., at the current rate of £97 10s. Tho 1933 5£ per cent, issue also changed hands, the sale rate of £IOO 2s 6d being a decline of 5s on tho price recently current.

In banks Australasian fractions were done at 9s at two calls. Commercials of Australia advanced by 6d on the recent market rate to sell at 28s 6d. Nationals of New Zealand were inquired for at £7, the level of the most recent sale, late buyers quoting £7 2s 6d. An advance was recorded in New Zealands, which were done at 60s, the highest point touched since December. Recent transactions have been at 59s 9d. In insurance there was late inquiry for New Zealands at Monday s sale rate of 40s 6d, but holders were firm at 41s.

In gas Aucklands again changed hands at 225. In shipping Howard Smiths were availablo at 27s 6d, a decline of 6d on recent quotations, but buyers would not advance beyond 26s j3d. Northerns weie done at the current figure of 15s Id. In timber holders of Kauris were willing to accept 22s 6d, compared with recent quotPticns at 235, but inquiries were renewed only at the old figure of 21s. In breweries New Zealands had two sales at 45s 7£d, compared with 44s at the most recent transaction three weeks ago. _ . In miscellaneous inquiries for British Tobaccos were advanced 3d to 40s 3d. Holders were willing to sell at 40s 6d, but no business resulted. Colonial Sugars, however, changed hands at* £SB 15s, compared with £SB 17s 6d at the end of March. Hayward's Pictures appreciated to sell at 20s, an advance of Is. Wilsons Cements again had sale at 38s. In mining the only business was in Waihis, which were done at the ruling rate of lis. Taranaki Oilfields, Ltd., report:—Gisborno No. 1 well: Depth, 2625 ft., in shale; while recovering bailer the fishing tools became fast, necessitating withdrawal of the 6Jin. diameter casing, vdrich is now being done. Gisborne No. 2 well: Depth, 30ft., through surface soil and boulders; a length of 20in. diameter conductor pipe has been sot and concreted; resuming drilling to-day.
